Features & Attractions
Join us for a fantastic day out. From pony rides and bouncy castles, through to historic games, an Ardmore war plane display, tractor pulls and vintage car rides. Engines will be making a noise. Stall holders will be providing food & drink, and the Karaka Museum will be showing off its wares as well.
The Franklin Vintage Machinery Club always have a wonderful display of tractors both standing and operating along with interesting picture boards of various models and their history. The guys are very passionate and knowledgeable to have a chat with as you watch the machines that helped shape Franklins farming and cropping character.
The Vintage Engine Restorers Association (VERA) showcase an amazing array of machinery and engines through the ages. These are operational so you can see how things work and get the noise and the smell of a bygone era. Don’t forget to get a fresh scone hot off the coal range and a cup of billie tea.
Vintage and Classic Cars
Kiwis have always had a love affair with motorcars and how they have changed through the years! Wander amongst over 150 vehicles from large club exhibits to passionate individual owners including going for a ride in a 100yr old Ford Model T to admiring the iconic muscle cars of the 70’s and everything in between.
The Karaka Museum
This museum is a labour of love for the Karaka Community that have contributed so much to this wonderful collection housed in the new Museum. War memorabilia, children's toys, wedding dresses, photos, machinery, tools and vehicles just to name of few of the time capsule pieces on display.
Keen to see some of NZ’s military history? We have army vehicles, a warbirds flyover from Ardmore and MASH helicopter rides onsite for those interested in these unforgettable eras . We would still love to have a tank as part of the day if you have one at home!
The fun of a community event needs a soundtrack and we are spoilt to have some wonderful musicians in the district. The Sunset Coast Big Band are a crowd favourite playing old time tunes that transport you to a different time. The Papakura Pipe Band lead off the Grand Parade in true style and more acts are still being confirmed.
What day out is complete without the fun of a fair! Kids can enjoy bouncy castles, rides, face painting and a relaxing book reading corner. Plus in 2018 we are introducing farm animals and pony rides so you can get up close to more of our rural lifestyle.
Our market place features local and not so local artisans that love to share their talents with you. Retro clothing, jewellery, homemade candles, classic wooden toys, furniture, garden art, photography, classic car items and tools are just some of the great items on offer – you never know what gems you might dig up.
